Rural Alberta Advantage - “The Deathbridge in Lethbridge” (via nostrich)

Ok, wow. I spent some time with Hometowns this morning, and — though I don’t want to appear hyperbolic — I’m convinced it’s the best album I’ve heard all year. (Not a particularly great feat, since I’ve been lazy with music this year, but we’ll overlook that.)

It’s hard to pick a favourite when the majority of the album is of such a high standard — “Luciana” is the only weak point for me — but I think “The Deathbridge in Lethbridge” is it. I love how prominent the drums are in the mix, and the guitar really pulls me in in a way the other tracks don’t. “Frank, AB” and “The Deadroads” are also high points, but when there’s only one weak track, who cares about favourite tracks? This is one of those albums you put in the frequent listens folder, instead of the new-buzzy-album folder.

This article is a great breakdown of their rise to popularity, too. Do read it. (h/t Anthony)

Oh I love this one. They closed the show with it! It was great!
